Search Goochland County Released Inmates

Goochland County released inmates are not kept in one county-only archive. A search for Goochland County released inmates begins with the regional jail that houses local adults, then moves to jail notifications, court records, state corrections, or a federal system based on what happened next. Goochland County released inmates usually disappear from the live custody list once the jail episode ends. The release record, not the missing roster card, identifies when custody ended, why it ended, and whether another agency took custody. The right search keeps local jail release, state-prison discharge, and transfer separate.

Goochland Release Custody Map

Goochland County has an unusual three-agency map. The Goochland County Sheriff makes local arrests, but Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover provides the public adult custody list and states that it houses Goochland detainees. Goochland is a housed locality rather than one of Pamunkey's named core member jurisdictions. At the same time, Virginia Correctional Center for Women sits inside Goochland County and holds a statewide prison population. It is not the Goochland jail.

This distinction belongs at the start of every released-person search. Search Pamunkey when the person was held on a local Goochland booking. Search VADOC when a state-responsible sentence or VCCW placement applies. A federal writ, ICE transfer, medical move, or another jail can form part of the custody chain. Ask which agency ended custody, at what time, under what authority, and whether another agency took over.

Key distinction: Goochland arrests commonly lead to Pamunkey custody in Hanover, while VCCW is a Goochland-based prison for statewide convictions.

The Pamunkey Regional Jail home page identifies Goochland among the localities whose detainees it houses.

What Goochland Release Means

A release is a custody event, not a declaration of innocence or the automatic end of a case. A person can bond out pending trial, leave on recognizance, receive time served, complete a local sentence, enter probation, obtain parole, finish a prison term, or move to another authority. A dismissal or acquittal may support release, but another charge or hold can remain.

Transfers require especially careful wording. Pamunkey may turn a person over to VADOC, another jail, USMS, ICE, or a hospital. The local custody episode ended, yet the person did not necessarily return to the community. A work-release or electronic-monitoring change can also alter physical custody without ending legal restraint.

Release type What it means Where to verify next
Bond or recognizance Physical jail custody ends while the case continues Pamunkey release entry and court bond record
Time served or sentence complete The local term ends Sentencing order and jail release time
Probation Community supervision follows a court order VADOC supervisee status and conditions
Parole Eligible prison term continues under conditional release Board action, VADOC event, and parole conditions
Discharge The controlling custody term ends under the proper authority VADOC or jail discharge documents
Transfer One agency ends custody as another receives the person Receiving agency's system
Booking episode
One identified admission to and exit from a jail.
Release
The end of a specific physical custody episode.
Discharge
Formal completion of the controlling term or supervision status.
Detainer
A request or hold that may lead to transfer when another custody ends.

Goochland Release Record Fields

The strongest Pamunkey record ties one booking episode to one termination event. Identity fields prevent a same-name error. The booking number and date isolate the custody period. Arresting agency and case number connect it to Goochland. Release time shows when Pamunkey ended control, while release type explains why. A receiving-agency field is vital when the event was transfer rather than return to the community.

Field What it shows
Full name and aliases The identity used for the booking
Inmate or booking ID The exact Pamunkey custody episode
Booking date and time When jail custody began for that episode
Arresting agency Whether Goochland County Sheriff or another agency booked the person
Charge and case number The court matter tied to custody
Release date and time When Pamunkey ended its physical custody
Release type or authority Bond, court order, time served, sentence completion, or transfer basis
Receiving agency Whether VADOC, ICE, USMS, another jail, or another authority took custody
Booking photograph An identity check for the same episode, not release proof

Pamunkey's public Who's In Jail card does not expose a released label, release time, release reason, destination, or archive filter. A future date near a charge may be a court date. It must not be recast as a release date.

Request Goochland Release Records

Begin with Pamunkey Records at 804-365-6400 extension 3033 for the jail booking and release summary. Booking/Release at extension 3043 may confirm whether the identified episode ended and whether it was a transfer, though staff may limit phone disclosure. Pamunkey's reviewed pages do not publish a dedicated FOIA form or fixed release-summary fee, so request a cost estimate rather than inventing a charge.

  1. Give the full name, known aliases, and lawful identity details such as date of birth or Pamunkey inmate ID.
  2. Identify the booking date, Goochland arresting agency, and court case number when known.
  3. Ask for booking and release date and time, release type or authority, and receiving agency if transferred.
  4. Request the booking photograph only when needed to match that episode, and ask for releasable fields with lawful redaction.
  5. Ask for electronic delivery and an estimate before the work exceeds a stated limit.
  6. If no record remains, ask for the retention or destruction schedule that applies to that entry.

For a Goochland Sheriff arrest record or image, use the GCSO FOIA channels. Requests can be sent by mail to P.O. Box 29, Goochland, Virginia 23063; made in person at 2938 River Road West, Building C; emailed to gcso@goochlandva.us; or discussed at 804-556-5349. The public window is Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

GCSO states it responds within five business days with a lawful response. It may charge actual search, access, duplication, and supply costs and may require a deposit when an estimate exceeds $200. Pamunkey and GCSO may hold different records, so ask each for what that office created.

Note: A narrow request for one booking and release entry is easier to process than a demand for the entire investigative file.

Virginia Law on Goochland Records

Virginia FOIA § 2.2-3704 gives qualifying Virginia citizens and media representatives access to public records. A public body generally responds within five working days by producing records, citing a legal basis for full or partial withholding, stating that records do not exist, or explaining why more time is practically required. Reasonable actual costs and estimate or deposit rules can apply.

Law-enforcement records are not uniformly open. § 2.2-3706 and § 2.2-3706.1 distinguish incident, noncriminal, and criminal-investigative records and permit or require withholding in defined cases. Requesting releasable booking and release fields allows redaction without demanding protected victim, medical, juvenile, security, or investigative detail.

Retention is not the same as web visibility. Pamunkey publishes no reviewed roster-archive promise. Court records, VINE events, and VADOC data follow their own rules. Virginia sealing and expungement law has changed during the 2020s, so obtain current court guidance and do not reconstruct a sealed or juvenile matter from old copies.

Find Released Goochland County Inmates

The gold-standard search follows the custody chain. A current roster answers whether Pamunkey reports present custody. A release entry answers when that jail episode ended. A court order supplies the legal reason. VADOC, BOP, ICE, or another jail answers what happened after transfer.

  1. Search Pamunkey's current list by name. If present, save the inmate ID, booking date, arresting agency, and case details. The result supports current custody, not release.
  2. If absent, search Virginia Jail VINE through VINELink and select Virginia plus the local or regional jail path. Match Pamunkey, age or identifiers, and booking context.
  3. Call Pamunkey Booking/Release at extension 3043. Ask whether the specific episode ended, when, how, and whether another agency received the person.
  4. Request the booking/release summary from Records at extension 3033 when phone information is limited or written proof is needed.
  5. Search the Goochland court case by case number. Read the disposition or obtain the signed bond, sentencing, or release order.
  6. Follow any transfer: VADOC for state custody, BOP or USMS for federal custody, ICE ODLS for immigration custody, or the named jail.
  7. Check VADOC supervisee status and District 9 only when the person may be on probation, parole, or post-release supervision.
Why a released person disappears: Pamunkey's list is current custody only. Absence can mean release, transfer, or a data change, so it is negative evidence rather than proof.

The Goochland last-24-hours workflow handles same-day checks where no official recent-release feed exists.

VADOC Goochland Offender Search

The VADOC Inmate and Supervisee Locator covers state custody and supervision. Search with the first three letters of the first name and full last name, or use the seven-digit DOC ID. Additional filters include location, race, gender, and age range. VADOC updates the locator daily but warns that data can be inaccurate or out of date.

Search field Use Caution
First and last name Starts a broad match Confirm similar names with added fields
DOC ID Finds the state record precisely Do not substitute the Pamunkey ID
Location Shows VCCW or another state placement Location change can be transfer
Age, gender, race Separates candidates Use only as displayed by VADOC
Status and release date Helps distinguish custody from supervision or discharge A future date remains projected

The official locator form shows both name and DOC-ID entry paths.

The public form helps identify a state record; the actual release event or signed papers carry stronger weight than a changing estimate.

Goochland Courts Explain Release

Goochland has a combined General and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court and a separate Circuit Court in the same courthouse complex, with different buildings and hours. The Virginia adult case-information systems help locate the case. General District criminal data can show bond, misdemeanor, and preliminary felony events. Circuit Court supplies felony final and sentencing orders.

General District Court is at 2938 River Road West, Building G, and can be reached at 804-556-5309. Its adult criminal docket is generally Monday. Circuit Court is at 2938 River Road West, with clerk phone 804-556-5353. The signed judicial order is the best proof of legal authority, while Pamunkey's entry is best for actual exit time.

A dismissed charge may explain release, but another charge can remain. A guilty disposition may lead to suspended time or time served rather than continued custody. Bond granted does not prove bond was posted. Juvenile information is not publicly searchable online and must not be inferred through an adult released-inmate process.

The statewide adult criminal search presents court-level filters for matching the proper Goochland record.

Goochland State Release Papers

VADOC gives state prisoners a notification-of-release letter and, as applicable, an Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, or Conditions of Parole. The relevant papers are signed and dated by the person and a staff witness. They can resolve a lagging locator and show what supervision follows discharge or parole.

The VADOC facility release page also distinguishes discharge from parole and explains that release occurs by 11:59 p.m. on the date, weather permitting. A parole grant or morning date display is not proof that the gate event already occurred.

Time-computation questions belong with VADOC's Court and Legal Section at P.O. Box 26963, 6900 Atmore Drive, Richmond, Virginia 23261. Do not rebuild a state release date from an arrest report. Credits, amended orders, jail credit, discipline, detainers, and sentence structure can all alter it.

Getting Home After Goochland Release

Virginia Code § 53.1-105 supplies an unusually concrete transportation rule. Absent private transportation, a qualifying prisoner who completes incarceration at a regional jail in Planning District Four or Five is to be transported to the locality where arrested or convicted, subject to § 53.1-113. Pamunkey sits in Hanover while the arrest or conviction may be in Goochland.

The rule should not be stretched to every bond-out, transfer, emergency release, or medical event. Call Pamunkey Booking/Release before travel and ask whether it applies to the particular release type. If another agency assumes custody, there is no community trip to plan at that stage.

Note: Verify transport with Booking/Release because the statute's qualifying conditions matter and private transportation changes the duty.

Goochland Release Alerts Split Systems

Virginia has two notification layers. Virginia Jail VINE covers local and regional jails, including Pamunkey. Search a specific person through VINELink, select Virginia, match Pamunkey and the person's identifiers, and read the custody status plus event time. Anyone may register for local-jail notifications under the official Virginia material.

VADOC uses NAAVI for eligible registered victims and state-custody events. A Pamunkey VINE registration does not automatically carry over when a person transfers to VADOC. An alert saying the Pamunkey episode ended can be the first half of a state transfer, not proof of community release.

The Virginia State Police registry is a separate, offense-specific system. A match may show a registration duty. A nonmatch says nothing about the custody status of most released people.

Federal and ICE Goochland Releases

The BOP Inmate Locator covers sentenced federal prisoners and retains historical release results for many former inmates. Search by register number when possible. A BOP release date means release from BOP custody. It does not prove the end of federal supervision or freedom from state or immigration custody.

A pretrial USMS prisoner held at Pamunkey may not have a useful BOP result. USMS has no public roster like Pamunkey's. Its FOIA route can address prisoner-tracking records, subject to Privacy Act and FOIA limits. The federal court judgment may explain the controlling sentence.

An ICE detainer can turn a criminal-custody release into transfer. ICE describes it as a request for notice and a hold of up to 48 hours beyond ordinary release so DHS can assume custody. The ICE Online Detainee Locator accepts a nine-digit A-number with country of birth, or exact name and country of birth with optional date of birth. A negative result requires care because coverage limits apply; DRIL is 888-351-4024 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern, excluding holidays.

Where Goochland Release Status Appears

The same name can appear in several systems at different stages. Compare the system to the custody type before drawing a conclusion.

System Still in custody After release or transfer
Pamunkey Who's In Jail Current regional-jail card Person usually drops off; no public archive found
Virginia Jail VINE Local or regional jail status May show release event; transfer still needs follow-up
Pamunkey release record Booking episode remains open Release time, type, and receiving agency may be documented
VADOC locator State prison location and projected date Release, discharge, or supervisee status may remain
Virginia courts Bond and pending case events Disposition and signed release or sentencing authority
BOP or ICE Federal or immigration custody within system limits System-specific release history or recent status

Goochland Release Facility Routes

Each facility page follows its correct custodian. Pamunkey is first because it holds ordinary Goochland adult detainees. VADOC institutions use the statewide locator. Juvenile information remains confidential. Federal and ICE pages apply only when those authorities control the person.
