Pamunkey Release Destinations
Pamunkey Regional Jail holds adults for Goochland as well as several other localities. Ending a Pamunkey booking can lead to the community after bond, recognizance, dismissal, time served, or completion of a local sentence. It can also lead to Virginia Department of Corrections custody, another jail, federal custody, immigration custody, a hospital, or a return to the arresting or convicting locality. The exit entry and receiving-agency field matter because each outcome ends Pamunkey custody without producing the same kind of freedom.
A court order supplies the legal authority for bond, dismissal, time served, or a sentence. The jail record supplies the actual date and time when staff carried out that authority. A future court date shown on a current booking card is not a planned release date. If a person leaves the list, match the booking ID, arresting agency, and Goochland case number before drawing a conclusion.
Confirm a Pamunkey Release
The official Who’s In Jail list describes current custody. It has no release tab, 24-hour view, 72-hour view, or stated archive. Use it to collect the inmate ID, booking date, arresting agency, charges, and court details while a matching card is present. Then use sources designed to report an end to custody.
- Search the current list by name. A match supports current Pamunkey custody, not release.
- Search Virginia Jail VINE through VINELink. Match Pamunkey, the person’s identifiers, and the booking context.
- Call Booking/Release at 804-365-6400, extension 3043. Ask whether the identified booking ended and whether another authority received the person.
- Request a booking and release summary from Records at extension 3033 when phone disclosure is limited.
- Match the Goochland court case and signed order. Follow VADOC, BOP, USMS, ICE, or another jail if the result is a transfer.
The broader Goochland released-inmate search explains how those systems fit together. Save the source and access date because the current list changes with jail operations.
Pamunkey Release Record Fields
A useful request identifies one person and one booking episode. Ask for releasable fields rather than a full investigative file. This narrows the search, reduces the risk of a same-name mismatch, and lets the custodian redact protected material while producing the custody facts.
| Field | What it resolves |
|---|---|
| Booking or inmate ID | Connects the request to one Pamunkey episode. |
| Booking date and arresting agency | Helps isolate a Goochland arrest among the jail’s localities. |
| Release date and time | Shows when physical Pamunkey custody ended. |
| Release type or authority | Distinguishes bond, court order, time served, sentence completion, or transfer. |
| Receiving agency | Shows whether VADOC, another jail, USMS, or ICE took custody. |
| Court and case number | Links the jail event to the controlling judicial record. |
A booking photograph can help confirm identity, but it does not prove release. Ask for the release entry itself. Pamunkey publishes no fixed release-summary fee or public archive term on the reviewed pages, so request an estimate and the applicable retention rule if an older entry cannot be found.
Pamunkey Records and Contact
The jail’s official directory separates Records from Booking/Release. That split is useful. Booking/Release can address the immediate end of a booking, while Records is the route for a durable written entry.

In a written request, provide the full name, lawful date of birth if known, inmate ID, approximate booking date, arresting agency, and Goochland case number. Ask for booking and release times, release authority, receiving agency, and the booking photo for that episode. Request electronic delivery and a cost estimate before work exceeds a limit you choose.
Goochland County Sheriff may hold the arresting agency’s record or photograph, but it is not the custodian of Pamunkey’s jail release entry. Keep those requests distinct.
Pamunkey Jail Release Context
Pamunkey opened on March 1, 1998. Its official history says the regional facility houses adult men and women at all custody levels, from arrest through court and sometimes for a year or more. The stated capacity is 530. An independent regional jail authority operates it. Goochland is a housed locality, while Hanover, Caroline, and Ashland are named member jurisdictions.
That structure explains why searching for a county-run Goochland jail roster fails. Pamunkey’s current card includes an arresting-agency field, which can help identify a Goochland episode among many jurisdictions. Read the agency label as shown, then confirm it against the case record. A short local sentence may never appear in the VADOC locator.
Note: Pamunkey’s public list has no published refresh cadence, so record the time of access and verify a change through an official release channel.
Pamunkey and Goochland Releases
The county’s facility map has an unusual inversion. Pamunkey is physically in Hanover and Goochland is not one of its three named member jurisdictions, yet the jail officially states that it houses Goochland detainees. Virginia Correctional Center for Women is physically in Goochland, but it holds a statewide prison population and is not Goochland’s local jail. The location of a building does not determine which release system controls.
For a Goochland arrest at Pamunkey, begin with the regional jail, VINE, and the Goochland court. For a sentenced woman at VCCW, begin with the statewide VADOC locator and release documents. State Farm facilities also use VADOC. Federal and ICE pages apply only when a record identifies those authorities. This custody-type choice prevents a transfer from being mistaken for community release.
The official jail home page documents Goochland’s relationship to Pamunkey. It also advertises an app, but the reviewed material does not establish a special release archive in that app.
Pamunkey Release Transportation
Virginia Code § 53.1-105 provides a specific transportation rule for qualifying people who complete incarceration at certain regional jails in Planning District Four or Five. When private transport is not arranged, the statute calls for transport to the locality where the person was arrested or convicted, subject to § 53.1-113. This can matter when a Goochland case ends at a jail located in Hanover.
The rule should not be stretched beyond its terms. It may not control a bond release, transfer, emergency event, federal pickup, or immigration pickup. A family member should call Booking/Release before travel and ask what applies to that specific release type. The desk can also clarify whether the person will leave from Pamunkey or be moved elsewhere first.
Pamunkey Release Alerts
Pamunkey maintains an official Virginia VINE page. Virginia Jail VINE can report a status event for a person in a local or regional jail and can accept notification registration. A released event is much stronger than absence from the current list, but it still describes the end of the Pamunkey episode. Read any transfer text and confirm the next custodian.
- Release
- The identified jail custody episode ended.
- Transfer
- Another authority or facility received the person.
- Discharge
- A sentence or corrections obligation ended as recorded by the responsible authority.
- Supervision
- The person is outside a secure facility but remains subject to parole, probation, or post-release conditions.
If Pamunkey transfers a state-responsible person to VADOC, local Jail VINE registration does not automatically become state notification registration. Eligible victims use VADOC’s separate NAAVI process. Confirm the system boundary instead of treating one alert as the whole custody history.
Pamunkey Release Court Proof
Goochland court records help explain why Pamunkey custody ended. General District Court can show a bond event, dismissal, misdemeanor result, preliminary hearing, or time-served sentence. Circuit Court handles felony trials, appeals, and sentencing orders. Search by case number when possible because the same name may appear in several matters. The public case summary is a navigation tool, while the signed order is the stronger record of judicial authority.
Read dispositions with care. A bond grant does not prove that bond was posted. A dismissed charge does not rule out another hold. A guilty result does not show whether the sentence was suspended, served locally, or transferred to VADOC. Likewise, a sentencing order may command release without recording the actual exit time. Pair the order with Pamunkey’s release entry to establish both authority and execution.
Virginia FOIA allows a focused request for releasable public records, subject to criminal-record exemptions and redaction. Pamunkey publishes no dedicated online release-request form, so identify the booking episode and ask Records for the narrow fields needed. If the jail and court sources conflict, preserve both access dates and ask each custodian to resolve its own record.
Pamunkey Release Desk Directory
The official Pamunkey directory source shows the separate telephone extensions for Records and Booking/Release.
The directory image supports the two-step contact route: ask Booking/Release about the immediate custody event, then use Records for a written release entry.
